According to @sagaftra a “producer is never permitted to request that performers engage in real sex acts.” To avoid this while achieving realism in the scenes, “a physical barrier is required of any action that may lead to genital contact. This barrier must prevent the exchange of fluids and prevent sexual stimulation.” Intimacy Check-Ins with actors during pre-production play a key role in my process as an intimacy coordinator. I use the time to gather important safety and artistic information. It also gives actors the chance to more freely ask questions and voice concerns about scenes of intimacy so they feel confident heading into rehearsals and production.
